shopaholic series by sophie kinsella......

no one is able to enjoy such a feast than the one
one who  knows how to throw a party in his ,her own mind
and  sophe kinsella is one author who definetly  knows how to throw a party......her books are nothing short of a feast  for girls in particular!!!she is witty ,humourousand u will be rolling in floor laughing..she is one of the best chick lit authors i ave read until today.....the series of her books i have read  are....
      confessions of a shopaholic

      shopaholic goes abroad
      shopaholic and the baby
     shopaholic ties knot
        shopaholic and sister.....

i will not be exaggerating if i say that each of her books is mind blowing.....only the flip side is once u start it as the saying goes even wild horses cant drag u away from it:)
the character   rebecca bloomwood is truly a master piece,,,,,,,the more she shops,or the lies she tell or the hare brained scams she lands herself into...the more endearing she becomes to the readers...
iam reminded of enid blyton in a   way  who was my fav author in chidhood....at that time when enid blyton used to talk about ginger ale, dumplings or lamb chops...my mouth used to water even though i never knew wat thy were!!!!!!!similarly in sophie kinsellas books i may never know what a vera wang dress or denny and george scarf looks like...but my mouth watering problem is back with a bang..............
all i can say shopaholic seies of books have truly made me  a readaholic!!!!hats of to you sophie kinsella....you deserve all  the appreciation you get and more.......!!!!!!!!!!!

chicken soup for the readers soul:)

one of my friends presented me friendship book which has a collection of some very nice poems...here iam sharing one wich i happen to like a lot for its simplicity

IF
the sky were my canvas
i would paint it with colours of love
IF
my thoughts were threads of silk
i would weave rich patterns
into my dreams
IF
the sea were my emotions
i would fill the cup
that friendship cradles
IF
the stars wer my ideas
i would light up the
lives of everyone around
IF
the sun was my ally
i wouldspread thewarmth of happiness
o the very end of time
IF
the wind were my wishes
i would spread the fragnance
of kindness in the air
IF
flowers lent their smiles to me
i would wipe last of sorrows trace
IF
the moon gave me its silver shine
i could bring a shimmer

princess by jean sason

well this was another book i read by chance but has stayed on my mind for along time...
my cousin who had come from dubai had broughtalong wither a book which had acover of muslim girl encased in jewels fully coverd and veiled except for her eyes..i was immediatly intrigued.......
freedom is something which is much talked, written and read about but if u want to true meaning of this word u just have to read this book...
it is areal life story of a  royal family a saudi arabian princess in particular narrated to a journalist....regarding how the men intheir lives...father,brother and husband have them battered and bruised mentally and physically!!when you r reading this book you will experience every emotion  possible from indignation to shock, horror, outrage and finally sadness.....
if u are a feminist this book is defnetly a NONO for chances are that u wil not survive the first 50 pages of the book without succumbing to a panic attack....
i have also read her next book mayada which deals about the life of an innocent muslim women in clutches of  saddam hussain torture jail...but frankly after reading princess...nothing surprises me any more....

MILLS AND BOON:)

if i do not write a post on this am sure most of my friends wil be surprised as well as as dissapointed:)..........mills and boon and me share a long history..i read my first book when i was in 8th stdand ater that it has been a long journey.... i would say that we are something like a married couple who have completed more than 10 years of anniversery..i will not be exaggerating if isay i have read several hundreds of books in these 10 yrs...the best thing about this books is that it is ultimate form of escapism to me when iam tensed, irritated or feeling blue..... i rem in my college years when we had university exams comin up or up 2 our neck with stuff, most of my friends would be cribbing in phone to their parents ,friends or rather 2 anyone who is willing to lend an ear...,i would lock myself in my room and immerse myself in a m&b and after 2hrs i would be a much calmer person.. lots of people tell me that m&b is full of thrash and i should not waste time reading it....my only answer 2 these people is lot of things in life is full of thrash but that doesnt stop people from doing it,take alcohol 4 an instance ,,it tastes like shit and is worse thn shit:)on your health but that doesnt stop people from consuming it....compared to that my affinity is harmless addiction 2 say in the least and as all MARRIED COUPLES DO we have pledged to love and respect each other in good and bad times :)

BOOKS IN MY READING WISH LIST:)

1]IF GOD WAS A BANKER BY RAVI SUBRAMANIAN 2]THE GLASS PALACE BY AMITAV GOSH 3]ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY BY DAVID SEDAN 4]HOW I BECAME A FAMOUS NOVELIST BY STEVE HELY 5] NAMESAKE BY JHUMPHA LAHIRE..the movie whatever little i saw of it was dissapointing but am told the book is defntely not 6] thousand splendid suns 7] ladies coupe by anita nair 8] zoya factor 9] can u keep a secret by sophie kinsella

THE HUNGRY TIDE BY AMITAV GOSH

SOME BOOKS R TO BE TASTED WHERAS OTHERS SWALLOWED AND AS FOR THE REST CHEWED ,TASTED AND DIGESTED... THE HUNGRY TIDE BY AMITAV GOSH BELONGS 2 THE LATTER CATEGORY if u r looking for versality in reading and wanna trt serious reading, amitav gosh is another indian author whom u cannot miss a story set in backdrop of atidal country, sunderbans of the west bengal precisely where NATURE IS AT AT ITS BEST AND WORST...the best being beauty of islands embedded between ganges and the worst being dense jungals where maneating predators like tigers and crocodiles reside with cyclones and tsunami the story revolves around a female foreign scientist[nri actually] who specialises in cetology [that is study of marine mammals, dolphins in particular] and an fisherman...they have nothing in common for what is flora for one is fauna[food ] for the other and yet their lives interewine ina manner none can imagine amitav gosh is not only a master story teller but a scholar as well, who knows his craft tooo well..the story plays in front of ur eyes anh his vivid imagination gives u a visual schizophrenia while u are reading it it is very hard 2 convince yourself that this is a piece of fiction and nothing more..if ther is another author i was reminded while reading it was god of small things by arundathi roy a fascinating book to say in the least interwoven with fables and stories from indian history,,my hands are already itching to get hold of his next book the glass palace:)what i like about this author is not what he says but rather what he whispers!!!!!

sudha murthy(wise or other wise)

better to write for yourself and have no public than to write for public and  have no self if iam going 2 talk about short stories and indian authors....i cant leave sudha murthy much behind tht three books of hers which i have read are 1)wise or other wise 2)dollar bahu 3)the old man and the tree according 2 me...wise and other wise is undoutably the best...it was the one which inspired me 2 try out her next 2 books .... her books  r usually  short stories...which are her real instances with her association with her people as part of infosys charity foundations most of thm r touching ones some which leave ur heart warm and othrs ice cold..and it is also intriguing 2 know  tht life isalways not a bed of roses for an owner of an 1400 crore empire..... moral values  ahuman touch and bit of modesty are wat what her books endearing

harry potters fans

well for all harry potter fans am sorry 2 say that  ihave read only first edition in the series....and not the subsequent ones...so i would rather somebody else do the honours of wat makes magic of harry potter soooooooooooo  magical....so for all the harry potter fans wat r u waiting..this post is all yours:)

chetan bhagat...novels

chetan bhagat is another.author..whose books i completly  enjoyyyyyyyy....he is one of my favourites in indian author list..whose books i just cannot afford 2 miss .i have read three of his books tht first one  being five point someone, second one the night at call centre and thirdly.the three mistakes in my life
there is a popular saying..wine and women get better as they age..i  will modify it a bit and say wine ,woman and chetan bhagat get better with every passing year:)..
the theme which i feel i is similar in his all three books.is..how u can actually screw your life..sucessfully and completly:)which is sooo easy 2 relate 2...while most author s try 2 give u stories with morals or idealistic protaganists..chetan bhagat works in the reverse direction:)
it is said that easy reading is one hell of damn hard writing.!!!...and that is chetan bhagat for u....his books also has inspired many young indians 2 experiment with writing..which is a good and bad thing 2....the bad part is that these young authors wil be using people like me as their guinea pig:)
i liked his last book three mistakes in my life soo much tht for the first time in my life i was compelled 2 send him an email...seriously guys the email was just a letter of appereciation and nothing more:)i have not forgiven him till today  for not replying 2 my email....at least a thank u would have done..he should have been honoured..that i till now havent sent an email 2 even shah rukh khan...who does he think he is?
well thts ok whn his next book goes hay wire..it will be indeed my pleasure 2 screw his book and him in my blog....well mr chetan bhagat..am waiting:)

summer of cool

summer of cool by suchitra krishnamurty..guys i saw this press conferance on tv where suchitrakrishnamurthy was publicising this book..and whn i went 2 lib i saw this book on one of the shelves and picked it up..........
i knew it was her first bookand believe me i absolutely had no expectations frm her but she bowled me over completly...the book is truly awesome ...for a first time author she h as held readers intrest till last page...it is about aneighbourhood colony very normal..and lives of the people in it..the language is simple...matter of fact...and u just have 2 spare 2 hours of ur time
the book is actually for the teenage reader.s..and suchitra..u r nxt buk bettr be half as good as ur first one....otherwise u wil have lot 2 answer 4...but guys do chk this out..she is worth every penny:)
something of a mock tale by soma das....read appoximately 20 pages of the book ..all i can say is if i get hold of the author i will rip him apart with my teeth and suck his blood like a vampire:)needless 2 say the rest:)

anything for u maam

anythng 4 u mam..is another book which i heard good reviews in the net and got it home..the autor is a 21old iit studentin delhi...who tries 2 ape chetan bhagat and fails miserably ....it about iit students eng life.....and supposedly the pranks and mess thy get into ..as i said earlier he is trying to mimick chetan bhagat..i can tell u no of reasons why the book went off the track..for starters pace is 2 slow...and romance is more like highschool kind..or rather poor bugger was 2 scared what his parents may say whnthy read the book..so he stuck 2 kindergartenstyle...conversation with his gf...secondly the author assumes he is a big stud firstly because he is in iit and is brimming with overconfidence...hello mr author we r the ones who decide whether u r a stud...and not u urself!!!
the only comical part in the book is the part the booze party the guys organise in the night headed by a guy called...tanker..he is called a tanker becoz he drinking capacity is like tht of a tanker....so tanker is fully drunk and out whn the dean ,warden and all big shots come for patrolling in the guys rooms...tanker is fully out he opens the door and mistakes thm 2 be people wanting 2 join his party...and drenches all those bigshots with vodka and whiskey from top 2 bottom and asks thm 2 join the party:)
well those guys r all suspended frm college..and only way thy manage 2 get off the suspension is by gettng medical certificate saying tanker had an epilepsy attack tht night at booze party and all the drenching all was part of convulsion:)
well i ditched the book half way ..can u blame me:0?the only advice i can give 2 mr author is GROW UP AND WHN U DO may be thn i will consider finishing the book:)
