THE HUNGRY TIDE BY AMITAV GOSH

SOME BOOKS R TO BE TASTED WHERAS OTHERS SWALLOWED AND AS FOR THE REST CHEWED ,TASTED AND DIGESTED... THE HUNGRY TIDE BY AMITAV GOSH BELONGS 2 THE LATTER CATEGORY if u r looking for versality in reading and wanna trt serious reading, amitav gosh is another indian author whom u cannot miss a story set in backdrop of atidal country, sunderbans of the west bengal precisely where NATURE IS AT AT ITS BEST AND WORST...the best being beauty of islands embedded between ganges and the worst being dense jungals where maneating predators like tigers and crocodiles reside with cyclones and tsunami the story revolves around a female foreign scientist[nri actually] who specialises in cetology [that is study of marine mammals, dolphins in particular] and an fisherman...they have nothing in common for what is flora for one is fauna[food ] for the other and yet their lives interewine ina manner none can imagine amitav gosh is not only a master story teller but a scholar as well, who knows his craft tooo well..the story plays in front of ur eyes anh his vivid imagination gives u a visual schizophrenia while u are reading it it is very hard 2 convince yourself that this is a piece of fiction and nothing more..if ther is another author i was reminded while reading it was god of small things by arundathi roy a fascinating book to say in the least interwoven with fables and stories from indian history,,my hands are already itching to get hold of his next book the glass palace:)what i like about this author is not what he says but rather what he whispers!!!!!
